Title

J. N. Free; H. Marting & Son (1873)

Description

Photo image of scanned scrapbook page. Pictured is a typed page giving details about J. N. Free. He was a well known man who traveled a lot on the railroads, all across the U. S. He was known as "The Immortal J. N." and his mission was to "Lift the veil and tell the truth." He would hold conferences at the Court House when he was in Portsmouth. There he claimed he would expose truths on many subjects, but more often than not, he never showed up, much to the relief of many citizens. Free was so popular he never paid to stay at a hotel when staying in the city. Pictured below text: H. Martin & Son (1873). Henry Marting began a dry goods store in 1873 on the northwest corner of Chillicothe and Seventh (7th) Streets.
