Audio-Visual Borrowing Policy
Videocassettes
- To check out a videocassette, patrons must be 18 years or older, possess a valid library card from the Portsmouth Public Library.
- Entertainment videocassettes and DVD’s circulate for seven (7) days, instructional videocassettes circulate for seven (7) days.
- All videocassettes may be checked out anytime during posted hours and are due back by closing time on the date due. If the due date falls on a holiday or day when the library is closed, the videocassette’s due date is the next day the library is open.
- Audio cassettes and compact discs circulate for fourteen (14) days.
- No materials may be reserved.
- A maximum of five (5) videocassettes may be circulated per patron.
- A fine of $1.00 a day will be charged for each overdue videocassette or DVD.
- All copyright laws are to be observed and no material may be duplicated.
- The Board of Trustees, the library and library employees assume no liability for damage to home videocassette equipment through the use of videocassettes borrowed from the library.
Books on Tape
- There are no age restrictions on borrowing Books on Tape.
- Patrons may check out up to 25 items on their card at any one time. Patrons must present a valid Library card to check out Books on Tape.
- A patron may not borrow materials using someone else’s card. Books on Tape circulate for 14 days.
- The overdue fine is 10 cents per day per tape.
- Reserves may be placed on Books on Tape.
- Books on Tape may be returned in a book drop.
- Books on Tape may be returned to any Portsmouth Public Library facility.
- Copyright laws prohibit duplication.
- Keep Books on Tape away from direct sunlight or sources of heat.
- Patrons are responsible for returning Books on Tape in good condition. In case of loss or theft, patrons will be charged the full cost of the Book on Tape.
Compact Discs
- Patrons must present a valid Library card to check out compact discs. A patron may not borrow materials using someone else’s card.
- There are no age restrictions on borrowing compact discs.
- Patrons may check out up to 25 items on their card at any one time.
- Compact discs circulate for fourteen (14) days. The overdue fine is 10 cents per day per compact disc.
- Patrons are responsible for returning compact discs in good condition. In case of loss or theft, patrons will be charged the full cost of the compact disc.
